600,000 calls to Britain today

UP TO 600,000 calls will be made from Irish landlines to Britain today, according to TalkTalk, the landline company from The Carphone Warehouse.

About 5.5 million minutes are likely to be spent on landline phone calls to Britain this St Patrick’s Day, costing an estimated €680,000.

A further one million calls are likely to be made during the course of the weekend, costing an estimated €1.2 million.

According to a recent poll conducted by TalkTalk, most people questioned would put music hero Bono at the top of their list of Irish celebrities to call up and wish them a Happy St Patrick’s Day.

Both Andrea Corr and Samantha Mumba came bottom of the poll, according to the TalkTalk poll.

The Carphone Warehouse chief executive Stephen Mackarel said: “St Patrick’s Day, as a family festival and national holiday, will be the ideal opportunity for people to touch base with their relatives and friends in the UK.”
