Cosmic shock at galaxy discoveries

ASTRONOMERS who looked billions of years back in time to the early universe have been shocked to discover galaxies that are fully grown adults instead of infants.

According to current theories of cosmic evolution, they have no business being that big, the astronomers reported in the journal Nature.

Scientists had assumed that galaxies started off as small clusters of stars that gradually merged to form larger structures.
