Chessmaster boy wins US championship

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has won the US Chess Championship, making him the youngest player to claim the title since 14-year-old Bobby Fischer won it in 1958.

Hikaru Nakamura of White Plains, New York, won the $20,000 prize after beating Alex Stripunsky, 34, in two overtime matches.

Nakamura, born in Japan, was taught chess by his stepfather and began playing competitively at seven.
