Shamrock Rovers have been given a "significant fine" and a suspended one-match closure of their south stand following an incident with a supporter against Dundalk at Tallaght Stadium recently.
A fan, who has also been banned indefinitely from all Shamrock Rovers matches, ran onto the pitch to confront Daryl Horgan after he scored the Lilywhite's second goal in a game they ultimately lost 3-2 on August 7.
And in a statement released by Rovers on Tueaday morning, the runaway Premier Division leaders confirmed they have been sanctioned by the FAI.
"The Club has received a disciplinary sanction from the League of Ireland’s independent disciplinary committee following an incident in which a supporter entered the field of play during a recent first-team fixture vs Dundalk at Tallaght Stadium.

"The League has imposed a significant fine along with a suspended one-match closure of the South Stand over the remainder of the 2026 season. This means any further sanctions will result in the South Stand being closed for one domestic match. This would have a significant impact on the unique atmosphere generated from our most vocal support.
"The Club takes this matter extremely seriously and has acted accordingly. We have identified the individual involved and they have been banned indefinitely from all Shamrock Rovers matches, home and away.
"The safety and wellbeing of our players, supporters, match officials, stewards and all other personnel at Tallaght Stadium is paramount. Entering the field of play presents a significant safety risk and cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
"The Club fully accepts the disciplinary committee’s decision and will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities, matchday safety operations team and all other stakeholders to ensure that our fixtures remain safe and welcoming environments for everyone.
"The message is clear to all supporters that any further incidents of this nature could have serious consequences for the Club, including the activation of the suspended South Stand closure. None of us wants this situation to arise.
"We therefore ask every supporter to play their part, and never enter the field of play. The Club thanks our supporters for their continued passion, commitment and support."
