Transfer Wrap: Madrid confirm Diomande signing, Trafford completes Leeds medical

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Ivory Coast’s teenage forward Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig on a seven-year contract.

The two clubs agreed a transfer fee on Thursday, with Real set to pay the German club £115.8m, the Press Association understands.

Real said in a short statement: “Real Madrid C.F. and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Yan Diomande, who joins our club for the next seven seasons, through June 30, 2033.” Diomande has made a meteoric rise in recent seasons, sparking widespread interest among Europe’s leading clubs, while the 135m euros fee makes him Africa’s most expensive player.

Paris St Germain pulled out of the race to sign him last month, leaving the way clear for Madrid to seal the deal for the 19-year-old, who scored 13 goals and made 10 assists for Leipzig during the 2025-26 campaign.

Diomande’s extraordinary progress is a classic rags-to-riches story. He had trials with Chelsea, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Rangers before being offered a contract with Spanish side Leganes in March 2025.

He made just 10 appearances for Leganes, scoring two goals, before Leipzig signed him for a reported £20m the following July, while he started all four games for the Ivory Coast as they reached the last 32 at this summer’s World Cup.

Meanwhile, James Trafford has edged closer to a club-record move to Leeds after completing a medical at Elland Road, the Press Association understands.

Leeds have agreed a £40m transfer fee plus add-ons with Manchester City and are hoping to finalise the deal, which would eclipse the £36m they paid Hoffenheim to sign Georginio Rutter in 2023.

Trafford, back-up to England number one Jordan Pickford at the World Cup, will become the world’s fourth most expensive goalkeeper signing.

Only three goalkeepers, Kepa Arrizabalaga (Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea for £72m), Alisson Becker (Roma to Liverpool £67m) and Andre Onana (Inter to Manchester United £47.2m), have cost more.

In other transfer news, Bournemouth have completed an £11.1m deal for Sevilla right-back Juanlu as head coach Marco Rose finalises his squad for the club’s first season in Europe.

Former Spain Under-21 international Juanlu has signed a five-year contract at the Vitality Stadium for an initial £9.4m fee and could cost a further £1.7m in add-ons.

The 22-year-old is the Cherries’ third signing of the summer following the transfers of centre-back Antonio Silva from Benfica and forward Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche.

With the arrival of Juanlu, who made 109 first-team appearances for Sevilla and helped Spain win Olympic gold at Paris 2024, Rose’s squad is understood to be “95 per cent complete” ahead of the club’s Europa League campaign.

Bournemouth moved for a right-back after allowing Alex Jimenez to join Fiorentina on a season-long loan. The 21-year-old was suspended by the club in May following allegations concerning posts made on social media.

Leicester have signed Ipswich winger Wes Burns on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Burns won three promotions with the Tractor Boys during a five-year spell with the club, twice helping them return to the Premier League in 2024 and again last season.

The 31-year-old Wales international made 164 appearances in all competitions for Ipswich, scoring 30 goals, after arriving from Fleetwood in 2021.

Burns told Leicester’s official website: “Having spoken to the manager and various people I know here, there’s a massive ambition to get the club back to where it once was, so I’m excited about the project.

“I want to bring a lot of excitement for the fans, along with plenty of goals and assists. I’m direct and an old-school-type winger, who likes to take on his defenders and put crosses into the box.”

Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri, as reported by Marca.
