Chelsea confirm Cucurella departure

Spain defender Marc Cucurella has joined Real Madrid from Chelsea, the Premier League club have announced.

Cucurella joined Chelsea in the summer of 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion. The 27-year-old defender was part of the Spanish team that won the UEFA European Championships in 2024 and is part of Luis de la Fuente's World Cup squad. 

Madrid confirmed Cucurella has signed a six-year deal with the club, with the transfer fee thought to be in the region of €50m. 

He will link up with new Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea said: "Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements.

"We wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his career."
