Dylan McGlade hit a first-half hat-trick as Cobh Ramblers picked up their first home win of the season with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Treaty United at St. Colman’s Park.
Kai O’Neill also marked his return to the senior team by squeezing the ball in at the near post in the 58th minute, as Fran Rockett and his players move up to sixth in the table and back into the play-off conversation.
It was a perfect afternoon for Cobh, following on from a defeat of Kerry FC on Good Friday at Mounthawk Park.
As for Treaty, this marks their heaviest defeat in a season that produced just one victory and three draws before a ball was kicked on the Great Island.
The Ramblers were just relentless, beginning with a Rhys Brennan through ball in the 11th minute that set up McGlade for the opening goal.
The winger slotted in and grabbed a second by collecting a low Rhys Gourdie pass and firing passed Jack Brady at the Liam McMahon Stand in the 20th minute.
It was a quickfire start and things got better before the break as Brennan was pulled back inside the area by Ben Lynch. The referee pointed to the spot and McGlade’s converted penalty made it 3-0 to Cobh in the dying seconds before the break.
Tommy Barrett and the Treaty United management team reacted to the deficit by making three changes at half time, with Steven Healy, Jason Folarin Oyenuga, and Raphael Ohin coming on for Colin Conroy, Ben Lynch, and Nikodem Kozlowski.
O’Neill, who replayed Kelly Noonan, was the substitute that made almost an instant mark as the teenager was able to dibble into space and knock the ball in at the near post in the 57th minute.
Treaty had the majority of possession for the rest of the game, but the damage was done with the rest of the time on the clock a formality.
