Ger Nash has resigned as Cork City manager, the club confirmed in a statement on Tuesday evening.
Nash took over midway through the 2025 season following Tim Clancy's resignation but he couldn't save the club from avoiding their third relegation in five years.Â
The Kildare native did, however, lead the club to the FAI Cup final where they were ultimately beaten 2-0 by league champions Shamrock Rovers thanks to Rory Gaffney brace after Harry Nevin's first half red card.
Nash had previously insisted his aim was to lead the club back to the Premier Division in 2026 and they recently signed striker Hans Mpongo from Finn Harps in an effort to do so.
But just a couple of days before Christmas, the Rebel Army posted on social media that Nash has decided to step down with immediate effect for personal reasons with assistant manager David Meyler the early favourite to take over, while fellow Cork native Colin O'Brien is also available after ending his spell in charge of the Republic of Ireland U17s.
"Cork City FC has been informed by men’s first team manager Ger Nash of his decision to step down from the role, with immediate effect.
"The club would like to thank Ger for his efforts throughout the 2025 season.
"Ger Nash has indicated to the club that the decision was made for personal reasons.
"The search for a new manager will begin immediately."
