Mo Salah has launched an astonishing attack on Arne Slot and Liverpool after accusing the Premier League Champions of 'throwing him under the bus.'

The Anfield legend has cast his future into doubt and admits he could have played his last game for the club following a damning assessment of his treatment by the Reds' head coach in the wake of being left on the bench for the third consecutive game in the 3-3 draw at Leeds.

Liverpool twice surrendered the lead as Salah was left frustrated as an unused substitute at Elland Road.

Talking to reporters after the game, the 33-year-old claims he has been made a scapegoat for the Champions' shambolic title defence, and he said: "I can’t believe I'm sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. I think it's the third time I’m on the bench, it's the first time in my career.

“I'm very disappointed. I've done so much for the club, everybody can see that during the years, especially last season. To sit on the bench, I don’t know why? It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus, that's how I feel.

“It’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame. The club made a lot of promises to me in the summer and so far I'm on the bench for three games.

“All I can say is keep the promises. I had good relations with the manager and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.

“I don’t know why. It seems to be me, how I see it, someone doesn’t want me here. I will always support this club, I love the club and always will. What has happened is not acceptable. I don’t know why this happened to me, I don’t get it.

Salah has scored 250 goals since joining Liverpool from Chelsea in 2017. He signed a new contract in April, but his fall-out with Slot has alerted super-rich clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar who will attempt to persuade the Egypt international to quit Anfield for a mega-money move to the Middle East.

The Reds legend spoke about saying his 'goodbyes' when he goes on AFCON duty after Saturday's Premier League game against Brighton, and he added: “I called my mum, I said come to the Brighton game, it doesn’t matter if I play or not, I'm going to enjoy it. We will see what happens.

“In my head I will go to enjoy that game, if I play or not, or if I'm on the bench, I don’t know what will happen. I will be at Anfield, say goodbye to the fans and go to the African Cup. I don’t know what will happen when I'm there.

“If I am somewhere else, every club would protect the player. I don’t know why I am in this situation now. I don’t think I'm the problem. I've done so much for this club.

“I don’t have to go every day fighting for my position because I've earned it. I'm not bigger than the club but I earned my position.”

Of the match itself, Salah added:

“I don’t know what to say. It’s funny but I couldn’t believe it. It is a very disappointing result for us as a team.

“We expect to win that. We managed to score two goals in the beginning. The game was going in our direction.

“We conceded silly goals. Same as we did before while I was playing. So I am not attacking my teammates or something because I am on the bench.

“So we have to try to keep the clean sheets and win games."
