Evan Ferguson is expected to miss Ireland's upcoming World Cup Qualifers against Portugal (Nov 13) and Hungary (Nov 16) after sustaining an ankle injury in the opening minutes of Roma's victory over Parma on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old was hauled off after just seven minutes of the contest when he was involved in a collision and had to limp off before having a chance to make an impact.

Ferguson was diagnosed with a sprained right ankle and a strain of the ligaments. He is expected to be out for at least two weeks.

The striker is yet to find the net in competitive matches for Roma this season, providing one assist in 10 games between Serie A and the Europa League.

However, Ferguson has been more prolific in the green shirt scoring three times in Ireland's last four competitive games.
