Transfer windows in the UK closed on Monday but Sligo Rovers winger Will Fitzgerald could still be on the move if Dutch club Roda JC intensify their interest.

Eredivisie’s deadline is 11pm on Tuesday, affording scope for clubs to scour Europe for talent.

Fitzgerald (26) is one of the few Sligo Rovers players under contract until the end of next season and they remain immersed in a relegation battle, level on points with Galway United in the playoff spot with seven games left.

Although they’re under no pressure to sell, Sligo have been contacted by Roda with a view to formally lodging a six-figure offer in a bid to facilitate a deadline day capture.

Limerick native Fitzgerald lined out for his hometown club, Waterford and Derry City before joining Sligo in 2021 and has developed into a mainstay of the league.

He captained Sligo in Saturday’s scoreless draw against Bohemians that maintained an eight-point buffer on basement side Cork City.

Roda JC last season narrowly missed out on promotion to the top-flight Eredivisie in stoppage time on the final day and have begun their Eerste Divisie campaign with two wins and a draw from their opening four matches.
