Finn Harps manager Darren Murphy has left his role after six games of the First Division – and just four months on from signing a three-year contract.
Initially brought to the Donegal club in 2023 as the assistant to Dave Rogers, he took over the reins for last season and finished the season guiding the team to sixth place.
Despite a ropey start to the season that entailed one point from the first five games, that barren run was ended in emphatic fashion by trouncing Bray Wanderers 5-0 last week.
“I’ll give the role everything I have over the next three years,” he said when his extension was agreed.
“Our fans are incredibly loyal through thick and thin and, while I’m sure there will be bumps in the road ahead, it is a really exciting time for all involved with Finn Harps.”
A brief statement released on Tuesday night, running just to 70 words, confirmed the 50-year-old’s immediate exit.
“The club’s Board of Directors wish to thank Darren for his commitment over the past two years and for his efforts in developing the pathway between the Finn Harps Academy and the first team,” the club said.
The current coaching staff of Kevin McHugh, Eamon Curry and Tommy Canning will take charge of the team until further notice, starting with Friday’s trip to Athlone Town.
