Premier League: Newcastle 1 Bournemouth 4

JUSTIN Kluivert left Newcastle with an unwanted sense of deja vu - grabbing a stunning hat-trick to halt the Magpies' quest for a perfect 10 straight wins.

The Bournemouth striker's famous father Patrick wasn't averse to finding the net here during a fruitful 12-month spell on Tyneside under Sir Bobby Robson two decades ago.

All the talk had been about Alexander Isak's bid to score for a ninth consecutive Premier League game, but the prolific Newcastle forward was outshone by his Bournemouth counterpart, who took his season's tally to 10 by striking twice in front of the Gallowgate before the interval, then adding a third in second-half stoppage-time.

Bruno Guimaraes levelled in-between, but Newcastle could have few complaints as their impressive nine-match winning run was ended to deny them a chance to climb to third.

Eddie Howe has now not beaten his former employers in six attempts in the league as his side paid for a listless start.

It saw them fall behind inside six minutes as they gifted the Cherries an advantage they fought doggedly to protect in a gloriously bad-tempered and uncompromising contest littered with yellow cards where it came as a surprise that both sides ended the contest with a full complement of players.

Antoine Semenyo had already put a good chance over the bar after Martin Dubravka saved smartly from Dango Ouattara, when Kluivert rounded-off a smart three-man move as Ryan Christie superbly released Semenyo to provide an inviting cutback for the forward to sweep home the opener left-footed from inside the area.

From a Bournemouth perspective, Newcastle's equaliser was eminently preventable, firstly that Guimaraes was given the freedom of the area to meet Lewis Hall's 25th-minute corner.

Secondly, the visitors' hapless goalkeeper Kepa had to do much better after getting a hand to the Brazilian's downward header, but still somehow failed to stop an effort which had to travel more than a dozen yards to find the bottom corner.

Bournemouth restored their lead as half-time approached, Newcastle this time pointing the gun to their foot and pulling the trigger as they failed miserably to play out from the back.

A slumbering Guimaraes was easily dispossessed by Christie near his own box, allowing Ouattara to feed Kluivert, who given time and space to pick his spot, easily beat Dubravka with a crisp first-time finish into the corner from 15 yards.

To their credit, Bournemouth refused to merely sit back on their lead, and looked to have forged a two-goal advantage thanks to Ouattara's far post volley, only for the effort to be disallowed after replays showed the ball had gone out for a corner in the build-up.

Dubravka did brilliantly to claw away David Brooks' close-range effort which came within inches of crossing the line after another slick counter-attack left Newcastle short at the back.

The hosts struggled to carve out clear chances in their quest to salvage a point. Dean Huijsen inadvertently blocked Anthony Gordon's fierce goal-bound volley, but it was a stroke of good fortune Andoni Iraola's men richly deserved for a display brimming with character that more than merited all three points.

Victory was sealed with two stoppage-time efforts.

Kluivert rounded-off a dream afternoon, beating Dubravka from 20 yards with a low curling effort after Tyler Adams intercepted the ball on the edge of the Newcastle area.

There was still time, from a Kluivert pass, for full-back Milos Kerkez to burst into the box to find the bottom corner with a fine left-foot effort.

Newcastle (4-3-3): Dubravka 6; Livramento 5, Botman 5 (Schar 46, 6), Burn 5, Hall 6 (Trippier 66, 6); Guimaraes 6 (Osula 90, 5), Tonali 6, Joelinton 5; Murphy 5 (Willock 66, 4), Isak 4, Gordon 4.
