First real piece of action was to pick the ball out of his net after Harry Kane’s penalty, for which he went the wrong way. And then it all went pear-shaped - though he could not legislate for the slack defending in front of him.
Did a decent job at stifling Anthony Gordon, who dominated the early exchanges in September, before letting the Newcastle forward get away from him slightly for the second goal. Had more touches than any other Ireland player, not that such a thing mattered at the end of a heavy defeat.
Debutant looked comfortable in a collectively solid first half but was completely absent once Liam Scales walked. Particularly sloppy marking to allow Taylor Harwood-Bellis to score a fifth.
Could have no complaints about the penalty concession and red card, immediately planting his face in his hands, but until that point the Celtic man had been good - notably winning a ferocious tackle with Kane.
Frustrated Noni Madueke and got the Chelsea man booked for a sloppy foul on a rare foray forward nearing the break. Departed at 3-0 after a hard-working 68 minutes. Hard to put him at fault for any specific part of the collapse.
Early block to deny Curtis Jones and the flexible role between midfield and defence seemed to work well - but he got wires crossed with Josh Cullen for the second goal as the entire plan went downhill very fast.
Embarked on two enterprising runs in the opening 20 minutes only for the support to be non-existent. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain a starting spot when Chiedozie Ogbene is fit again.
Played himself into trouble early on and in a game where Ireland were never going to enjoy too much possession a pass completion rate of 77% was nowhere good enough from a player who averages 88.3% for Burnley.
Booked following a wrestle with Kane and Kyle Walker in first-half added time - a bit of play-acting that will wind up opponents but is more than welcome when on your own side. Rarely on the ball.
Plenty of concern when he went down awkwardly after getting a foot stuck in the turf but cleared to continue and had a weak penalty shout ignored. Ended up playing until the 86th minute but was anonymous during second period.
Isolated, unsurprisingly, and had a solid spot kick claim after his shirt was pulled by Marc Guehi. Defended diligently enough but caught out from the corner that led to Conor Gallagher making it 3-0.
Thankless task up front when three goals down.
Immediately found himself turned by Madueke.
Scarcely involved as England began to toy.
