Ciarán Kilduff has quit as Athlone Town manager, just a fortnight after leading the midlanders to their first ever women’s national title.
The former Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers informed the club of his decision after Sunday’s FAI Cup final loss, a 6-1 hammering by rivals Shelbourne.
Speaking on finishing his duties after 18 months, Kilduff said: “It has been an absolute honour to work with such talented players and dedicated staff. Winning the Premier Division title with this team is something I will cherish forever.
“However, after much reflection, I feel this is the right moment for me to step away. I informed the club of my decision after the game.
“I am extremely proud of what we have achieved, and I would like to thank the club, players, and supporters for their incredible support throughout my time here.”
Kilduff has been critical of the FAI for ending the home-based sessions, a showcase for domestic players to be regularly monitored by the Ireland international manager.
