If it’s unlikely wins over England you are after, then we have our man. After all, Heimir Halgrimsson’s CV can, if you are pressed for time, be boiled down to two main items: “beat England” and “is a dentist”.

Yet, despite the new gaffer’s Saxon slaying track record from his time as Iceland manager, the build-up to this renewal of the ancient rivalry feels slightly low-key. Maybe it’s the Nations League, which everyone agrees is a pretty good competition but not one you’re ever going to tattoo your torso with an image of peak era Gary Breen over.
