Boro ease to victory at Leeds, Rooney gets first win

Middlesbrough also into the second round with an impressive 3-0 win at Championship rivals Leeds in the Carabao Cup.

Anfernee Dijksteel broke the deadlock early in the second half with a left-footed finish into the bottom corner after cutting in from the right wing, with Josh Coburn then setting Delano Burgzorg clear on the hour mark to make it 2-0.

Coburn rounded off an excellent display by tapping home the third for Michael Carrick's side midway through the second half.

Charlie McNeill scored twice on his debut as Sheffield Wednesday ran out 2-1 winners at Hull, all three goals coming inside a frantic opening 10 minutes.

McNeill opened the scoring with just seconds on the clock with a right-footed shot which flew in off the bar and, after Marvin Mehlem equalised for the home side, the 20-year-old took advantage of a blunder from goalkeeper Anthony Racioppi seconds later to slide the ball into an empty net.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney enjoyed his first win as Plymouth manager with a 3-0 victory over Cheltenham.

Rooney's side bounced back from a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the Championship season thanks to three second-half goals at Home Park.

Ben Waine was left with the simplest of tap-ins when Adam Randell's 62nd-minute free-kick came back off the bar and late goals from Ryan Hardie and Mustapha Bundu sealed a comfortable win.
