Fresh challenge beckons for Connolly after Bristol City exit

Ireland international Megan Connolly will start the new season with a new venture after confirming her departure from relegated Bristol City.
The Corkwoman (27) was handed the captain’s armband when recruited from Brighton and Hove Albion 12 months ago. She was an ever-present for the Robins during a testing Women’s Super League campaign that concluded with them slipping into the Championship.
Connolly, who made her 57th appearance for Ireland in last month’s epic Euro qualification win over France at Pairc Uí Chaoímh, won’t be short of offers in top-flights, England and further afield.
Announcing her exit on Instagram, Connolly wrote: “It has been a pleasure to play for Bristol City this past year. It was always a dream of mine to captain a team in the WSL and I was privileged to carry that honour this past season. I can’t speak highly enough of the group of players I was able to step onto the pitch with week in, week out.
“Thank you to Lauren [Smith] and all the staff for all you have done for me this past year.
“Finally, thank you to all the fans for the continuous support and setting record attendances. All the best to staff and players for the upcoming coming season.”
