Republic of Ireland international Alan Browne has completed his move to Championship outfit Sunderland.
Cork native Browne has penned a three-year-deal at the Stadium of Light, having wrapped up his 10-year stint at Preston by winning the 2023/24 player of the year award at the club.
Browne, 29 - who had been captain of Preston since the start of the 2020/21 campaign - made over 400 appearances and scored 46 goals during his decade-long stay at Deepdale.
The 35-cap international is capable of playing both across the midfield as well as at right-wing-back, a position he has frequented in a green jersey over the last number of years.
“It’s a big change for me after being at Preston for such a long time, but it’s brilliant to be here," Former Cork City youth player Browne said. "Sunderland is one of the biggest clubs in England and I can’t wait to get started.
"I captained Preston for some time, so hopefully I can bring those leadership qualities to the Stadium of Light and add to what is a very talented squad.”
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman added: “Alan is a dynamic and versatile midfielder, who will complement the players within our squad and bring fresh qualities to our midfield.
"His availability is something we have closely followed throughout the last eight months and his ambition was at the forefront of our discussions.
"He believes he can fulfil those ambitions at Sunderland and after seeing our potential, he wants to play an important role in creating future success. We are delighted to welcome him to the club."
