ON THE MOVE: Manchester United have agreed a deal with Marseille over the sale of striker Mason Greenwood

Manchester United have accepted a €31.6m (£26.7m) offer for Mason Greenwood from Marseille, with the forward to sign for the Ligue 1 club subject to his terms being finalised.

The deal is for a guaranteed €27.6m plus €4m in add-ons and if the 22-year-old can come to contractual agreement with Marseille and joins, his troubled United career will end. It is understood the sell-on clause is 40-50% of any fee.

In October 2022 Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He denied all the counts and criminal charges were dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew their cooperation from the investigation and new material came to light, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Greenwood last played for United in January 2022 and has a contract to 2025, with the club having the option to extend for a further year.

He was loaned to Getafe last season, scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances and making six assists. Greenwood has returned to England and is thought to be training in the Manchester area away from the club.

Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek says his time at Manchester United has "come to an end" with a move to Spanish side Girona understood to be close to completion.

The Dutch midfielder joined the Red Devils from Ajax in September 2020 for an initial £34.1million but has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford, and spent the second half of last season on loan at German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

He is now poised to make a permanent exit from United, with Girona - who will play in next season's Champions League - set to be his destination.

He wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday: "Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end.

"I want to thank you for all your support throughout the years. From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we felt extremely welcome and we are grateful for that.

"Thank you to everyone at the club for making us feel at home. A special thanks to all the fans that made these years unforgettable. Besides the football, the birth of our two children here ensures that Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts. Good luck to everybody, we'll meet again."

United have not commented on reports of a third bid for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, or that a fee has been agreed with Lille for their highly-rated defender Leny Yoro, but are understood to be exploring various options at centre-back.

In other transfer news, Watford have brought midfielder Moussa Sissoko back to the club on a two-year contract.

The former France international joins on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Ligue 1 side Nantes.

Sissoko, 34, reunites with his former team-mate and now manager Tom Cleverley having played for the Hornets in their 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

"It's a statement signing," Cleverley told watfordfc.com.

"I think it shows you the ambition that myself and the club have got moving forward.

"He brings a real powerhouse to the middle of the pitch; he's a consistent performer."
