Brian Barry-Murphy has left his position as Head Coach of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, the club have confirmed.

The Cork native - son of the legendary Jimmy Barry-Murphy - first took charge of City's Under-21s in the summer of 2021 after leaving his role as manager of Rochdale.

The former Cork City midfielder guided the Elite Development Squad to successive Premier League 2 title triumphs in both 2021/22 and 2022/23, becoming the first club to win a hat-trick of PL2 championships following their maiden success in 2020/21.

Furthermore, during the 45-year-old's spell at the helm, a host of EDS players, including Cole Palmer, also gained vital experience both training with Pep Guardiola’s first team squad as well as making their senior City debuts.

“Brian has made a huge contribution in his time at the Club," said Academy Director Thomas Kruecken.

“Guiding our Under-21s to two successive Premier League 2 titles was a superb achievement and he deserves great credit for the role he played.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian for all of his efforts during his time at the Club and to wish him well for his future career.”

A spokesperson for City added: "Everyone at Manchester City thanks Brian for all of his hard work over the past three seasons and wishes him the very best going forward."
