The venue of Cork City's Women's Premier Division clash with DLR Waves this weekend has officially been switched to the UCD Bowl.

The Munster Football Association announced on Monday night that Turner's Cross Stadium will be closed for an indefinite period of time.

The playing surface at the home of Cork City Football Club suffered severe damage during their 3-0 victory over local rivals Cobh Ramblers last Friday night due to the wet conditions.

“Following a meeting of the Munster Football Association Executive it has been decided that Turners Cross will be closed indefinitely," the MFA statement read.

“Unfortunately we have had to make this decision in conjunction with and on the advice of our pitch contractors following the League of Ireland fixture that took place on Friday night last where extensive areas of the pitch have been severely damaged.

“We wish to ensure all affected parties that while there is a period of extensive works needed we endeavour to have the Turners Cross pitch restored and playable as soon as possible.”

City’s Women’s team were due to play at the Cross this Saturday afternoon against DLR Waves but the League of Ireland has now confirmed it has been switched to Dublin with the kick-off time also brought forward two hours.

"The League of Ireland can confirm the following fixture change in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division.

"Cork City v DLR Waves, originally scheduled to take place at Turner’s Cross on Saturday, April 13, at 5pm, will now take place on the same date at 3pm at the UCD Bowl.

"We will issue further information when confirmed in relation to any additional Cork City fixtures that are affected as a result of the recent closure of Turner’s Cross."

City's Men's side were scheduled to host Longford Town on Friday April 19 and then Finn Harps the following week but it seems to be increasingly likely that those fixtures may be reversed.

Local leagues in Cork are currently making other arrangements for the finals, which are usually held at the Cross, although it is hoped if the weather keeps improving in the weeks ahead they will be able to go ahead as planned.

Cork City released the following statement on social media on Tuesday; "We will continue to liaise closely with the Munster Football Association and the FAI regarding the pitch at Turner’s Cross.

"We will provide an update to supporters as soon as it is possible to do so."
