Outgoing FAI president Gerry McAnaney admits females require more encouragement to apply for directorships but cites democracy to explain the all-male line-up for upcoming elections.

The football association, like all sporting bodies, have until December 31 to implement the Government funding condition of 40% women at board level to promote gender balance.
