A game of defensive errors and plenty of enterprising football ended with Liverpool temporarily up to third place in the Premier League and manager Jurgen Klopp untroubled by VAR controversy - the only incident referred to the men at Stockley Park went uncontroversially in Liverpool's favour. Brighton’s first draw of the season means that Roberto De Zerbi, their head coach, remains unbeaten against Liverpool in four meetings.
Simon Adingra took advantage of slackness in the Liverpool defence to give Brighton the lead with his second goal for the club. But Brighton returned the favour, twice, and Mohamed Salah levelled before putting Liverpool ahead at the break from the penalty spot.
