What is the conventional route to the upper echelons of elite football for aspiring Irish footballers, be that the Premier League or one of Europe's traditionally stronger leagues? 

Answers may differ, but it is arguable the avenues have changed significantly of late given the recent flow of young Irish talent to the continent.
