Mario Gomez to leave Turkey after ‘terrible events’

Gomez scored 28 goals in 41 games for Besiktas and won the Turkish league title last season.

Germany striker Mario Gomez will not play for Besiktas again because of the political situation in Turkey.

On Friday an attempted army coup took place in Turkey as the military tried to overthrow president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with 161 civilians and police killed.
