Robbie Keane injury update a boost for Ireland

LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena says Robbie Keane should be fit for Ireland’s Euro 2016 campaign.

The 35-year-old suffered an injury during the Galaxy's win over the San Jose Earthquakes in March and missed both of the Republic of Ireland’s recent friendlies as a result.

His was just one of a host of injuries worries among ireland’s forwards including knee surgery for Jon Walters.

Keane also underwent knee surgery last week and a recovery time of four to six weeks was suggested.

Arena now says the former Inter Milan, Liverpool and Spurs forward should be back to "full speed" before the end of April.

“It’s cartilage and a lot of players have some type of issue with their knees at some point,” he explained. “He should be fine.

“I’d say in close to a month, he’ll be back to full speed.”

Martin O’neill’s men get their European Championship campaign underway against Sweden on June 13.

Before that there are to further warm-up friendlies scheduled for May - they take on the Netherland in the Aviva Stadium before welcoming Belarus to Turners Cross, Cork.
