Expert wind-up merchant James McClean sets his sights on Sunderland
They won’t be rolling out the red carpet for Ireland’s James McClean in Sunderland after these comments.
McClean played with West Brom against the Black Cats on Saturday, with the game ending in 0-0 draw.
Sunderland defender Lamine Koné, who was judged to have done a good job of keeping McClean under control during the game, tweeted afterwards: “By the way, who is James McClean?”.
Never one to back away from a war of words, McClean fired back a pointed response of his own. He shared a picture on Instagram and captioned it: “The guy that put you on your backside big fella.”
Koné didn’t let it go though, sending another tweet that read: "I didn't saw McClean playing sorry. Is he the benchwarmer who beat me in the back? Next time you'll need 2 like you in front to hurt me."
Was that the end of it? Course not!
Last night McClean upgraded his attack from just Koné to whole of Sunderland. A picture of him grinning was captioned: “That face you make when you have more prem goals than the guy trying to mug you off has in prem appearances, wins and teeth the whole of sunderland have combined.”
Over to you Lamine.
