The image of the devoted young fan with his handwritten top spread like wildfire on social media.
A Kurdistan TV news chave reported that the picture, taken two years ago, is of this boy - Homin, who lives in Dohuk in the Kurdistan area of Iraq.
Searchers will be pleased to see that Homin now has a proper Barcelona jersey, naturally bearing his hero’s name.
According to 101 Great Goals, in the news clip the boy said: “I like Messi. He is a brilliant player.”
The report said Homid lives with his mother, who is a housewife, while his father is away fighting with the Kurdish Peshmerga against ISIS.
However others have disputed the veracity of the Iraqi report, saying Homin is not the boy from the picture.

The BBC are reporting that this child, five-year-old Murtaza Ahmadi from a rural area in Afghanistan, is the actual boy from the picture.
Murtaza’s father Arif said the original photo of him wearing the plastic shirt was taken by his oldest son Hamayon who published them on his Facebook page.
