Keane calls for 'peaceful and memorable' England clash

Robbie Keane has called for a "peaceful and memorable" clash with England, as Ireland prepares to face the side at 1pm.

In a facebook post this morning, he said: "20 years ago I attended the Ireland v England game. I sat in the schoolboy stand. Times have changed and hopefully this game will be a peaceful one and memorable for all the right reasons.

"Come on you boys in green."

Today's high-profile friendly against England at the Aviva Stadium will be the first meeting between the two sides since the Lansdowne riot forced the abandonment of their game 20 years ago.

Manager Martin O’Neill said yesterday: “I’m hoping the crowd will be behaved, hoping there’s something on the pitch for them to cheer about and hoping time has moved on from 20 years ago. I don’t think anyone would like to see scenes there all those years ago.”

It is expected that Jack Charlton, manager of the Irish team on that night 20 years ago, will attend today's game.
