Qatar angered by suggestion it could lose World Cup bid

Qatar has issued an angry response to suggestions that it could be dropped as host of the World Cup in 2022.

It comes after FBI investigators confirmed they are looking into both Russia and Qatar's winning bids.

Earlier, outgoing President Sepp Blatter was given a 10-minute standing ovation by staff, as he returned to FIFA's Zurich headquarters.

He announced he was to stand down last night.

White House press secretary, Josh Earnest, has given this reaction.

"This is an organisation that is responsible for managing the affairs of a sport that is closely followed by billions of people across the globe," said Mr Earnest.

"And it is apparent from recent new reports that they would benefit from some new leadership."
