St Mirren fans make cancer sufferer (6) player of the year

Scottish football club St Mirren have a very unusual Player of the Year - six-year-old academy player Aaron Woodall.

Fans took part in a on online poll on fan site blackandwhitearmy.com and voted to give the accolade to the young lad.

Aaron, circled, with his academy team-mates.

Aaron was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2014. He has undergone months of surgery after an operation to remove the tumour.

He is still battling the disease and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

The touching gesture from St Mirren fans saw the youngster receive most votes for the award, well ahead of the club’s top scorer and other senior players.

We have a feeling this is one time footballers will be chuffed to see the award go elsewhere.

The site said: “Aaron's strength & courage has been an inspiration to all of us, and a timely reminder of things around us that are much more important than football”.

In addition to the trophy, young Aaron will receive a framed St. Mirren shirt, signed by the Scottish League Cup winning team of 2013.
