Van Persie’s return meant Wayne Rooney dropped into midfield while Daley Blind slotted into the left-back position, which was left vacant due to an injury to Luke Shaw.

Darren Fletcher captained West Brom on his first return to Old Trafford. Youssouf Mulumbu and Jonas Olsson replaced James Morrison and Victor Anichebe for the visitors.
