Carragher’s dig on Twitter was clearly aimed at his former team-mate: “Big games need big players to do big things. Not many of them at Lfc which make wages demands of some ridiculous”.

The former Liverpool defender, now a Sky Sports pundit, also put some responsibility for the disastrous result on club management, saying: “the recruitment (is) worse”.
