Ferdinand tips United for top three

QPR defender Rio Ferdinand has backed former club Manchester United to finish in the Barclays Premier League’s top three this season after overcoming a “sticky start” under Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal has started to live up to his star-billing in recent weeks, overseeing a run of six wins from seven matches which has lifted the Red Devils into third place ahead of the Boxing Day visit of Newcastle.
