Ronaldo denies reports of offensive nickname for Messi
Cristiano Ronaldo has strongly denied a newspaper report that the rivalry between himself and Lionel Messi is so fierce that he refers to the Barcelona player using an offensive nickname.
Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has already written a book about Messi and has plans to write one about Ronaldo.
Yesterday The Telegraph published an extract from his book where he wrote about the relationship between the two superstars.
He said that Messi was aware of the rivalry and largely ignored it, but described Ronaldo’s attitude toward his rival as being much more hostile.
Balague wrote: “According to some Real Madrid players, CR7 has a nickname for him(Messi): ‘motherf----r’; and if he sees someone from the club speaking to Leo, he also ends up being baptised ‘motherf----r’.”
The description attracted a lot of attention yesterday and the Real Madrid star has used his Facebook page to strongly deny the story.
“News is circulating that I allegedly made offending remarks regarding Lionel Messi. This is absolutely false,” Ronaldo said in his post.
He said that he would be taking legal action in regards to the remarks and added: “I have the utmost respect for all my professional colleagues, and Messi is obviously no exception.”
