Twitter in meltdown over Suarez bite

Twitter was chomping at the bit to react to Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez apparently biting Italy’s Georgio Chiellini.

If proven this will be the third incident of the Liverpool star biting an opponent on the football field so perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised.

According to this picture of a docket posted online last night, one canny Norwegian punter certainly wasn’t - gaining a tidy profit after backing Suarez to bite an opposing player at any stage in the World Cup.

Meanwhile gifs and videos from Suarez’ previous incidents got a new lease of life. This one from an Everton fan probably one of the best.

Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield was famously also the victim of a bite during a sporting event, having his ear badly bitten by Mike Tyson during a fight back in 1997. So probably not surprising he had a comment to make on the issue.

There is understandable concern that high profile players behaving like this will set a poor example for others to follow.

While this more sympathetic tweeter suggested it was probably all down to low blood sugar.

As FIFA promise swift, incisive action on the matter, we leave you with this video to chew over.
