In a week where he's been unafraid to make controversial comments, FIFA president Sepp Blatter has said football could one day become an inter-planetary sport.

A day before the 2014 tournament starts, Blatter said football could go from being global to being universal.

"We shall wonder if one day our game is played on the other planets, why not?" he asked. "And then we don't have only a World Cup, we will have interplanetary competitions, that's our game."

Mars 2050 anyone?

Given Blatter's belief that Qatar, with average summer temperatures of 41 degrees, is suitable football territory, it can't be ruled out….
