Real go top of the pile as Bale ends up in a pile after wayward kick

On first viewing it might look innocuous, but the replay shows the full force of the kick that Real Madrid's Gareth Bale got in last night's La Liga game against Granada.

Second-half goals by Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema may have seen off Granada to fire the Galacticos to the top of the Primera Division for the first time since May 2012, but I bet that was little consolation for the former Spurs player at the time.

Still, Carlo Ancelotti’s side temporarily move two points clear of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona at the league’s summit.

And although they could be third again today, the Italian’s aim of “going to sleep on top of the league” has been realised.

Wonder if Bale managed any sleep last night.
