Middlesbrough have signed Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given on a month’s loan.
The 37-year-old, who has also featured for Newcastle and Sunderland in the north east, will go straight into Boro’s squad for the clash with Bolton on Saturday.
The Republic of Ireland international has not featured for Villa since January.
Should he play at the Riverside it will be his 600th club game.
Given is the second most capped player for the Republic of Ireland having won 125 caps, reportedly giving his international appearance money to charity.
He made 461 appearances for Newcastle spread over a 12-year stay before moving to Manchester City for just short of £6m on transfer deadline day in January 2009.
After making 69 appearances for City, Given moved on to Aston Villa for a reported £3.5m in the summer of 2011. He has so far made 43 appearances for the Villans.
Should he make his Boro debut, he will become one of a select band of players to have played for Boro, Newcastle and Sunderland where he spent time on loan in 1996 making 17 appearances.
