'Fergie’s Fledglings' reunite for new documentary
Manchester United fans are in for a treat this Christmas when a documentary chronicling perhaps the club’s greatest-ever youth team is released.
The Neville brothers, Beckham, Butt, Giggs and Scholes reads like a who’s who of modern-day greats and now the story of Fergie’s Fledglings has been made into a film, set to be released in the UK on 1 December.
Earlier this year the six friends were spotted strolling through Manchester in what may have seemed like an innocuous get together, but now it has emerged that they were busy filming ‘The Class of 92’.
The production features not only the protagonists but stars like Zinedine Zidane, Eric Cantona, Danny Boyle and Mani of Manchester band The Stone Roses.
“My time with these players at Manchester United was the most special in my career. We came from different backgrounds, grew up like a family playing together through the ranks, all wanting to be successful,” said Beckham.
“In the end, what we achieved was beyond our wildest dreams. I loved making this film and reuniting back with the lads and talking openly about our time together.”
The film charts the meteoric rise of the team from 1992-1999 and culminates with United’s European Cup triumph over Bayern Munich in the Nou Camp – the final leg of a remarkable treble.
Despite one pundit’s early assertion that: “You can’t win anything with kids”, Fergie’s young guns did alright for themselves, as the PFA recognised earlier this year by awarding them with the Special Merit Award.
The film is sure to be on the Christmas wish-list of many football fans and will be available on DVD the day after its theatre release.
