The best (and the worst) goals from last night's football action
What better to brighten up a Premier League-less Saturday than with some belting goals - and one absolute howler!
First off, we travel to Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands where former Aberdeen midfielder Hallur Hansson had the Torsvollor Stadium rocking with a sublime finish to give his side the lead against Kazakhstan.
They were unable to hold on for the win as Andrey Finonchenko pegged them back, but Brian Kerr’s former charges did at least pick up their first point in Ireland’s Group C.
Paris next, where Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud produced a bit of French flair with this lob, grabbing the first of his brace against Australia.
That was part of a 6-0 drubbing which cost Australian manager Holger Osieck his job and it looks like Guus Hiddink will lead the Socceroos into Brazil.
In Mexico, Club América striker Raúl Jiménez had the 100,000 patrons in Estadio Azteca in raptures with this exquisite 86th-minute bicycle kick to beat Panama.
Jiménez’s goal has kept the dreams of qualifying for the World Cup for Mexico and Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez alive.
If you can stand it, Cologne is our next destination as another Arsenal man Mesut Özil showed Noel King that resistance is futile.
Let’s face it - we were never going to beat Germany so we can at least enjoy the skill involved here.
Finally, we end our globe-trekking at the Karaiskakis stadium in Athens where it was a night to forget for Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel.
Sadly for Skrtel, it turned out to be the only goal of the game, don’t worry Martin - we've all done it.
