Trade unions call on FAI to act on Qatar World Cup 'slave labour'
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is calling on the FAI to raise concerns about the use of "slave labour" by Qatar as it prepares to host the 2022 World Cup.
Reports yesterday claimed that dozens of migrant labourers have died in searing heat and poor working conditions while building stadiums for the tournament.
ICTU said it wants the FAI to raise the issue at FIFA's Executive Committee meeting next week.
Congress General Secretary David Begg says the World Cup must not be "delivered on the back of modern slavery that is the reality for hundreds of thousands of migrant workers" in Qatar.
