Limerick stun Dundalk with second-half comeback

Limerick came from two goals down at half-time to stun in-form Dundalk 3-2 at Thomond Park to earn a first win in six games.

Fourth in the table Dundalk, who beat leaders St. Patrick's Athletic last time out, started positively and were deservedly ahead on eight minutes. Chris Shields' cross found Kurtis Byrne at the far post and the striker drove a shot past keeper Barry Ryan.

Limerick almost levelled within a minute, but Darragh Rainsford saw his dipping shot come back off the visitors' crossbar.

Dundalk doubled their lead seven minutes before half-time when Dane Massey's deflected free-kick beat Ryan for a second time.

Shane Tracy began the Limerick revival ten minutes into the second half with a goal from a trademark free-kick.

Limerick equalised on 73 minutes when Tracy's free-kick was deflected to substitute Rory Gaffney at the far post and he poked the ball to the net with his first touch.

Craig Curran then won it for Limerick in the 81st minute. Dundalk only partially cleared a corner which fell to David O'Leary whose blocked shot fell for Curran to fire the loose ball home from close range.
