Ferguson: Van Persie could have been killed
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has accused Swansea defender Ashley Williams of deliberately kicking a ball at Robin van Persie's head from close range in today’s Premier League game.
Ferguson said the Dutchman “could have been killed”.
After the match, Williams believed Swansea were well worthy of a point following their 1-1 draw with United at the Liberty stadium this afternoon.
Patrice Evra’s third goal of the season after 16 minutes gave the visitors the lead, before Michu equalised in the 29th minute after David de Gea could only parry Jonathan de Guzman’s shot.
Swansea had to survive a late onslaught by United and Jonny Evans hit the bar after 78 minutes.
“I think so (we deserved a point), we worked hard,” Williams told Sky Sports 1. “We lost twice to them last season and we lost the last two so we needed something.
“We had to dig in. You saw how close we are as a team everyone was defending and working hard. They are a brilliant team so we are happy with a point.”
The game threatened to boil over late on when Williams kicked the ball into Robin van Persie’s head while the United striker was on the ground.
The Dutchman reacted angrily and both players were booked, but Williams moved to downplay the incident.
“I tried to clear the ball; It hit him on the head,” he added. “I was trying to clear the ball. He was obviously a bit angry about that. It was a much ado about nothing.”
