Experienced United trio miss Cluj trip

Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes were all missing from Manchester United’s travelling party for their Champions League tie with Romanian champions CFR Cluj.

As Giggs and Scholes both trained along with the remainder of the United squad at Carrington this morning, presumably the veteran pair were rested.

Carrick did not train but there was no word from United about the reason for his absence. Antonio Valencia (ankle) was also missing.

Provisional squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Rafael, Buttner, Evra, Ferdinand, Evans, Wootton, Keane, Powell, Cleverley, Anderson, Fletcher, Nani, Tunnicliffe, Lingard, Hernandez, Rooney, Welbeck, Van Persie, Kagawa.
