Johnson and Fletcher start for Black Cats

Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill handed debuts to Adam Johnson and Steven Fletcher in tonight’s Capital One Cup second round clash with League Two Morecambe.

The pair, recruited for a total investment well in excess of £20m on Friday, started as O’Neill also handed chances to goalkeeper Keiren Westwood and defender Titus Bramble.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley made three changes to the side beaten 3-1 at home by Port Vale at the weekend with Will Haining, Izak Reid and Gary McDonald replacing Chris McCready, Kevin Ellison and Stewart Drummond.
