Shamrock Rovers secure victory with impressive performance

Shamrock Rovers beat UCD 2-0 at the UCD Bowl to record back-to-back league wins for the first time since March to get their season right back on track.

Rovers had the perfect start as Gary Twigg was simply given too much space inside the College box before shooting past Mark McGinley in the sixth minute for his 16th goal of the campaign.

Winger Gary McCabe sealed the win in the 68th minute, cutting inside past his marker before hitting a low drive to the corner of the net. The win moves champions Rovers to within four points of leaders Sligo Rovers who meet Drogheda United in a top of the table clash at the Showgrounds on Saturday night.

Bohemians hit the woodwork twice and missed a sitter as they had to settle for a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Bray Wanderers.

Midfielder Keith Buckley knows he should have sealed all three for the Gypsies on 70 minutes, though..

Keith Ward fed Karl Moore on the left and his inviting low cross needed a tap in a the far post. Buckley, though, somehow sliced wide with the goal gaping.

Substitute Dinny Corcoran then thought he’d won it ten minutes from time only to see his lob over keeper Darren Quigley bounce over off the crossbar.

Bohs' winger Ryan McEvoy had also shaved the crossbar with a long-range shot early in the first half.

Dundalk came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Cork City at Oriel Park.

Cork led from the 21st minute when Ian Turner punished sloppy defending to shoot beyond Peter Cherrie, his second goal in three games.

Gary Shananhan levelled for Dundalk on the hour mark when he latched onto newcomer Lorcan Shannon's pass to take the ball on and shoot past Mark McNulty.
