It has emerged that a Wicklow man was responsible for a sing-off between Irish and Croatian fans in Poland, the video of which has gone viral after it was posted on YouTube.

In an effort to drown out the singing of the opposition's supporters on a tram last Sunday evening, Tim Wood - from Greystones - began singing the theme tune to 'Home and Away'.

Within moments he was joined by other Irish fans, who also knew all of the words.

Cast members of the Australian soap have since tweeted about the video.

Tim, who's a brother of East Coast FM's presenter Laura Wood, says the plan now is to perform the song in the stadium tonight with as many Irish fans as possible taking part.

"I started singing 'Home and Away' and it just took off from there, to be honest," he said. "Everybody knew the words, everybody started singing along,

"A couple of hours later outside Poznan there were 200 people singing it outside the stadium

"The Irish fans are absolutely incredible over here, they'll sing anything, they really will.

"We’re hoping now tonight in the stadium tonight to get it going again, and get a huge proportion of people singing it."
