Late Nelsen swoop on the cards for Spurs

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that he could add Blackburn defender Ryan Nelsen to the signing of Louis Saha from Everton as the transfer window closes.

Nelsen would replace fellow centre-back Sebastien Bassong, who has long stated his desire to leave Spurs and was left out of the club’s 3-1 win over Wigan tonight.

The Spurs boss revealed the centre-half has been the subject of a bid from Wolves before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline and hopes to replace him by completing the shock signing of veteran Nelsen from Ewood Park.

Redknapp said: "Bassong could maybe go on loan to Wolves. I think that's going to happen.

“We just need to see whether I can take another central defender because I’ve got William Gallas out long-term through injury.

“I’m hoping to sign Ryan Nelsen on a free until the end of the season. I think he’s a great competitor and a good sort to have at your club. Always liked him.

“Seb needs to go – his head’s down.”

Steven Pienaar has also declared that he wants to leave Spurs this month and has been linked with a return to Everton, but he appears destined to stay at the club after a move to replace him with Juventus midfielder Milos Krasic fell through.

Redknapp said: “Pienaar wants to go. I’m trying to hide from him at the moment! He wants to go on loan to Everton.

“I was going to bring the boy on loan from Juventus. Two years ago I liked him and he was playing out wherever he was.

“I spoke to (Everton boss) David Moyes at quarter to seven. I said if I could get the player I wanted he could have Steven on loan but it won’t happen.”

Redknapp also revealed that Russia international Roman Pavlyuchenko is on his way to back to his homeland, with Lokomotiv Moscow thought to be the striker’s destination.

“Pav looks like he’s going to move,” he said. “I know it’s a Russian club he’s going to.”
